The Impact of Cryptocurrency Adoption on Government

Cryptocurrency is being adopted around the world. However, the size, trajectory, and velocity of the crypto economy are uncertain.

Cryptocurrency adoption impacts governments’ ability to collect revenue, monitor economic activity, enforce laws, and govern societies.

The GBA Financial Regulatory Group,  Sub Topic: Taxes, has been working on a whitepaper entitled ‘The Impact of Cryptocurrency Adoption on Governments’, and they will share some of their research during this discussion.

This Working Group studies how governments around the world are using blockchain and cryptocurrencies to generate revenue. They also make recommendations for other governments to implement systems, rules, and laws to adapt to new technology.

Speakers Include:

Ksenija Cipek.

Ms Cipek is the Director/Head for Tax Risk Analysis for the Ministry of Finance Croatia, Tax Administration. She has experience as an International Tax Expert, Lawmaker, Project Leader in the  Ministry of Finance, Tax Administration Croatia. Lecturer at the University of Law, Zagreb. As a Project Leader implemented Compliance Risk Management System in the Croatian Tax Administration. Research digitalization and Blockchain technology from the side of Taxes and Tax Administration. Author and book writer.

Mark Montoya

Mr. Montoya is the Chief Data Officer for GBA. He is also a Senior Analyst for a U.S. Federal Financial Regulator. His experience includes a unique background of more than 25 years of blending technology, standards and enterprise data strategy. As a Senior Data Strategist for a U.S. Federal Financial Regulator, he has been instrumental in developing strategies for modernizing financial data collection, reporting and data aggregation.   Mark co-authored the Financial Stability Board’s Global Legal Entity Identifier whitepaper and several other financial data reference papers and articles. His experience and expertise are too vast to fit here, but his contribution to this event will be stellar.
