GBA-Africa Blockchain Economic Development Framework

The GBA is preparing to launch the GBA-Africa Blockchain Economic Development Framework.  This is an initiative that is part of the GBA Economic Development Program with the program goals of implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (or Global Goals for Sustainable Development) are a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations General Assembly.The SDGs are part of Resolution 70/1 of the United Nations General Assembly: “Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” That has been shortened to “2030 Agenda.” The goals are broad and interdependent, yet each has a separate list of targets to achieve. Achieving all 169 targets would signal accomplishing all 17 goals. The SDGs cover social and economic development issues including poverty, hunger, health, education, global warming, gender equality, water, sanitation, energy, urbanization, environment and social justice.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are expected to shape the global agenda on economic, social and environmental development for the next 15 years.

 

The framework has three horizontal layers. They are :

  • Connect
  • Communicate &
  • Collaborate

The purpose of each of the horizontal layers is to help the region mature by building the infrastructure, community, capability and sustainability of local populations.  Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) are formed bringing together social impact investors, private industry, local, national governments along with NGOs to help developing communities address the challenges assigned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • Good Health and Well-Being for People
  • Quality Education
  • Gender Equality
  • Affordable and Clean Energy
  • Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
  • Reducing Inequalities
  • Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Life on Land
  • Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
  • Partnerships for the Goals

 

The GBA will working with local, national & international government and private industry leaders to use blockchain technology to overcome many of the challenges facing African communities.
