Javier Vázquez-Salceda is an Associate Professor (tenure 2011) of the Computer Science Department (CS), at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya-BarcelonaTech (UPC). Javier obtained an MSc degree in Computer Science in 1999 and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence in 2003. His PhD dissertation was awarded with the 2003 ECCAI AI Dissertation Award. From 2003 to 2005 he was researcher in the Intelligent Systems Group at Utrecht University. He has been also awarded with the Spanish I3 research program award (2011) and the 2013 El Bulli Foundation Hacking Bullipedia Award. He has experience as researcher on several EU-funded projects, and has been the full coordinator for the FP6 CONTRACT and FP7 ALIVE projects. His research is focused on theoretical and applied issues of behavioural modelling, normative systems, software and physical agents' autonomy and social control, especially in distributed applications for complex domains such as eCommerce, Medicine or user-centric solutions for Smart Cities.
